The dog days of summer are upon us. Keeping cool is probably top of your mind, along with finding ways to keep your senior hydrated this summer. Here are some tips to keep your senior (and yourself) healthy and hydrated this summer.
Keep Water at Their Fingertips
Just having water available at all times increases the probability that your senior will drink and drink often. They won't feel as though they are inconveniencing anyone by asking for a drink if the drink is already there. Add a straw so that it's easier for your loved ones to drink out of it, especially if they struggle with gripping items.
Add lemon, lime, or a bit of fruit to water change things up. Water alone can get boring, so adding a bit of flavor makes it more enticing. Avoid sugary drinks, water is always best.
Keep it Cold
Try giving your loved one some popsicles. Be wary of varieties that are high in sugar and opt for low sugar or fruit-based popsicles. Popsicles can be an excellent way to keep people hydrated when it's hot outside, and they can keep you cool. Even keeping water ice-cold can make it more enticing.
Fruit and Veggies
Fruit and vegetables are made up mostly of water. Consuming them can also be an excellent way to keep people hydrated. Eat watermelon, peaches, zucchini, cucumbers, and all kinds of delicious in-season summer produce as a good way to stay hydrated.
